People

We will care for people by giving back, doing good and changing lives in our communities; creating a diverse and inclusive work environment; and empowering associates, customers and the next generation to make healthy choices about lifestyles and diet.

Products

We will supply products responsibly by improving animal welfare in the foodservice industry; minimizing negative environmental, social or ethical impacts when sourcing products; and ensuring that human rights are respected in our operations, as well as the global supply chain.

Planet

We will protect the planet by advancing sustainable agriculture practices, reducing our carbon footprint and diverting waste from landfill, in order to protect and preserve the environment for future generations.

Our Stories

Nourishing Neighbors

As the world’s largest food distributor, Sysco knows about feeding people - and not just in restaurants. So when it comes to giving back in our communities, it just makes sense for Sysco to focus on what we do best. Nourishing Neighbors is a new endeavor that directs Sysco’s charitable donations primarily to agencies working to get healthy and nutritious food where it’s needed. With Nourishing Neighbors, our U.S. broadline companies commit a portion of Sysco Brand local sales to partner with local organizations in the fight against hunger. Our goal is to position 75% of charitable giving and volunteerism in the hunger and feeding space.

Sustainable Seafood

At a time when 3 billion people rely on both wild-caught and farmed seafood as their primary source of protein, sustainable management of our marine resources is more critical than ever. As one of the largest purchasers of seafood in North America, Sysco is committed to working with our suppliers to improve sustainability in our seafood supply chain. We began working with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in 2009 to assess our seafood supply chain, and have continued the partnership ever since. In 2016, we reinforced our commitment to improve the sustainability of our seafood procurement practices and standards by continuing our alliance with WWF through 2020.

Renewable Energy

Sysco signed a ten-year renewable energy agreement with a subsidiary of NRG Energy, Inc. As part of the agreement, three solar garden sites are being constructed in the Houston and Dallas areas, which will support approximately 10 percent of our U.S. electricity usage. The solar garden sites total 25 megawatts of renewable energy generation and will support the majority of the Company’s electricity load in Texas.

The Texas Solar Garden Project is a new addition to several initiatives we have in place to address our carbon footprint. The environmental benefits of this program include reducing approximately 37,000 tons of CO2 emissions a year, which equates to taking more than 7,000 cars off the road.
