Better For You

Healthy eating and nutrition continue to be among the leading trends in foodservice. Today’s consumers are moving away from fad diets, and toward making lifestyle changes that focus on eating right. Healthy eating, locally-sourced foods, fighting childhood obesity, and nutrition have never been more on-trend or top-of-mind. To stay successful, operators are finding that they must offer menu items that meet this growing demand for healthful dining.

Our Partners

As the leader of health and wellness, Sysco has aligned with key health organizations and has been involved in many nutrition initiatives
Produce For Better Health

Sysco has aligned with Produce for Better Health Foundation’s Fruits and Veggies More Matters campaign. The goal of the campaign is to give visibility to healthful products and promotions that increase the consumption of fruits and vegetables. From 2014-2018 Sysco and FreshPoint were recognized with PBH’s highly regarded Role Model Award. In 2014, Sysco was recognized as the first foodservice distributor to win the Role Model Award.

Good Choice

Sysco has aligned with Good Choice NYC, a program developed by the NYC Department of Health and funded by the CDC, to identify and promote healthier products in the NYC area. Since 2013 Sysco Metro New York and SHAPE have been identifying and promoting products that meet evidence-based nutrition criteria. This service is now also available to Sysco Syracuse customers through a partnership with the NYS Health Department.

Sodium Reduction in Communities Program

The last alignment is with The Sodium Reduction in Communities Program, administered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We are currently working with multiple OpCos to identify products lower in sodium and to work with customers to purchase sodium conscious options.

Our Health Initiatives

Menu Labeling

For our customers who are required to comply with the menu labeling regulations, we offer an overview of nutrition analysis service options. The intention of this document is to provide resource options for calculating calorie and nutritional information.

Gluten-Free

An estimated 1 in 133 Americans has Celiac Disease, and the only existing treatment is a 100% gluten-free diet. This may be why the gluten-free market is now a growing $4.2 billion dollar industry. Since it can be difficult to find establishments with acceptable gluten-free menu items, customers often become loyal to those that can best meet their dietary requirements. The health experts behind Sysco SHAPE have created a catalog to teach you how to successfully add gluten-free options to your menu. You’ll soon learn how easy it is to capitalize on this growing market, and effectively implement gluten-free options within your business.
